Unusual Places to Stay -
The Shepherd's Hut
Looking for unique and unusual places to stay in Wales?
Mountain Lodge is located on a hilltop above Gwrych Castle and adjacent to an SSSI* woodland with magnificent views. The shepherd's hut is mounted on cast iron wheels and can therefore be moved to different locations to suit the time of year. In the summer when the ground is generally hard, the hut may be sited further out in the field to take full advantage of the tranquil setting and magnificent views. In the winter the hut is moved to a more sheltered location.
Abundance of wildlife
We are blessed with an abundance of wildlife at Mountain Lodge and during the daytime you will see buzzards strolling the skies looking out for their prey on the ground. At dusk and night time you will hear the owls and during the summer evenings you will see bats flying around in search of insects. The lake in the adjacent field is home to wild duck and geese and you will often hear the birds ‘chattering’ during the night.
Double bed, woodburner, storage drawers
The shepherd's hut, built by Plankbridge of Dorset, spent a brief holiday looking after guests at River Cottage HQ before coming up to its permanent home at Mountain Lodge. The hut has a double bed, a woodburner (wood supplied), storage drawers, folding table, chairs and a sideboard with tea and ground coffee making facilities. All linen and towels are provided. The hut also has lighting, two power sockets and a wireless but please note that there is no television provided.
